About Mount Vernon, IN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

The county seat of Posey County, Indiana located in Black Township, Mount Vernon is small town of about 7,000 people. This community is part of the Evansville Metropolitan Area named for nearby Evansville, Indiana. Mount Vernon provides a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of Evansville but is still convenient to amenities, medical care and University of Evansville. The seasonal weather allows for warmth and sun in the summer and cold and snow in the winter. It is ideal for those who love to watch the seasons change.

Originally named McFadin's Bluff for its founder Andrew McFadin, Mount Vernon was renamed in 1816. The name change was suggested by a local resident whose father had served General Washington in the Revolutionary War. The Indiana town was renamed for Washington's home of Mount Vernon by the same name in Virginia. Mount Vernon’s commerce in the 1800s and early 1900s revolved around the wharf and the river traffic and associated trade on the Ohio River. During the 1830s one of the leading industries in the town was barrel making and hence the town was nicknamed the Hoop-Pole Township when the same material was used as weapons by local ruffians during skirmishes. The name sticks to this day as the Mount Vernon High School Yearbook still bears the name "The Hoop Pole". Today, Mount Vernon has transitioned from a river town to one ripe with petroleum industry.

Visitors and families of Mount Vernon can enjoy a number of local attractions in the Evansville area including the Children’s Museum of Evansville, Harmonie State Park and Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden.
